For beginners, the SDEN2 wine course is a great first step into the world of wine. The textbook "I Know More About Wine" is the core of the course, supplemented with wine stories from our instructors. During the course, you'll learn more about the most important grape varieties, wine regions, and winemaking techniques. Come take a wine course in Utrecht , Rotterdam and Schiedam or The Hague .

What does an SDEN2 wine course at Le Club des Vins entail?

  • Duration: five evenings + one optional exam evening
  • Time: 7:30 PM–10:30 PM
  • Tasting: an average of eight wines per lesson evening
  • Teaching materials: including textbook I know more about wine
  • Extras: snacks during the wine and food evening
  • Bonus: access to the online exam training (worth €29.50)

The SDEN2 course (Wine Certificate) is nationally recognised.

Lesson program

During these five lessons we travel through the most important wine countries and you will learn more about how to best taste wine.

  • Lesson 1 – From grape to wine
    The basics of winemaking, factors that determine taste and style, and how you taste.
  • Lesson 2 – France
    Classics from Bordeaux, Burgundy and the Loire: a combination of climate, grape and tradition.
  • Lesson 3 – Germany, Italy & Austria
    From fresh Riesling to Nebbiolo and Amarone: we taste classics.
  • Lesson 4 – Spain & Portugal + wine and food pairing
    Rioja, Rueda and sherry (yes, I'm a fan!) and we'll bring some matching snacks.
  • Lesson 5 – Outside Europe
    From California to South Africa: style differences, trends and use of wood.

Teachers

Le Club des Vins was founded by Nadien de Visser. Nadien de Visser obtained her DipWSET in 2021 and has been teaching wine courses for over nine years.

Nadien does not do it alone and has now been reinforced by a top team in Rotterdam, Utrecht and Schiedam.

Can I make up a lesson?

We regularly get asked if it's possible to make up a lesson. Because our courses are almost always full, this depends on cancellations from other groups. We don't have advance notice of this, so we ask that you keep an eye on it yourself.

On our website, you'll find an overview of all current courses and the dates each class is offered. During the week of that class, you can send us a message to check if there's room. If there is, you're welcome to join us.

At which locations do you teach?

We teach in Rotterdam, Schiedam, The Hague and Utrecht.

Which wine course should I start with?

New to wine? Most wine enthusiasts skip SDEN1 and start with SDEN2, then move on to SDEN3. That's understandable, but not essential.

Still unsure about your starting point? Feel free to send us an email – we're happy to help. Le Club des Vins doesn't offer SDEN1. For that, you can contact our friends at Proef bij Platenburg.

Le Club des Vins offers several SDEN2 and SDEN3 courses each year. The recipient will receive a gift certificate for a wine course with a start date of their choice and the course book in a package by mail.
