I don't remember where I first encountered this wine. In Burgundy, or was it Instagram? It was an instant hit, anyway. The label is so magical , and the name adds to that: Si Tu Sais . Just in case... I didn't even think about it, but I knew I had to try it. Another case of wine FOMO.

Patrick Johnston and Sara Cunningham

The estate is brand new and already the talk of the town . They're doing a great job, Patrick Johnston and Sara Cunningham, originally from the United Kingdom, but packed their bags after harvesting a few vintages at Maison Harbour in Savigny-les-Beaune . That left them wanting more, so they launched their own label in 2020. As far as I can tell, they now produce about 25 barrels a year. Incredible.

Si Tu Sais Pernand-Vergelesses En Caradeux 2022

Is this really good, or am I seeing life through fairytale glasses? After opening the wine, we smelled nothing, nada, nought. After double decanting , it was already better, and after just one day open, it's sublime. It's pure, clean, and very precise. Lately, " precise wines " are all over the place. It's a very popular term that I don't always understand in tasting notes. But here, it's spot on. This Chardonnay is pure and unadorned , with the creaminess of its lees but without the butteriness of excessive malo or the full vanilla notes from new oak. The oak is precise and balanced , reminiscent of freshly baked madeleines with plenty of lemon zest.

Fun fact: En Caradeux is a premier cru vineyard in Pernand-Vergelesses, but that's not stated on the bottle. Is this a case of "si tu sais" or is there something else to it?

We spoke to the winery, and they told us that En Caradeux has both a premier cru and a village section. This wine comes from the village section—so there's no sneaky attempt to disguise its origins.

Anyone who wants to drink it now doesn't NECESSARILY have to go Burgundy to travel or scour the depths of the web. The domain is imported by the Riesling House .
