Ah, Burgundy – the region of incredible wines, picturesque villages, and expansive vineyards. A perfect destination for a relaxing getaway. Whether you prefer luxury hotels, charming apartments, or something more casual, there's something for everyone. Here's my pick of my favorite places to stay in Burgundy.
Mama Shelter, Dijon
Instantly cozy at Mama Shelter. It's a chain, but it gets the job done. There's a restaurant where you can squeeze your own juice in the morning—a welcome antidote to all the wine from the night before. They have a parking garage with charging stations, a plus for me, since my car has a 200 km range on the highway. The restaurant is also a great spot for a quick lunch and to catch up on work. Dijon isn't very big, so the city center is just around the corner. I would book again in a heartbeat!
Hotel Alfred, Beaune
Planning a trip to Burgundy yourself? Hotels in Beaune are usually either very expensive or very basic. I've finally found my new hangout: Hotel Alfred Beaune. Right in the city center, with excellent rooms and a cozy living room on the ground floor where you can easily share a bottle.
Le Dracy Spa Hotel, Dracy
We also spent one night on the Côte Chalonnaise and ended up in Dracy. Of course, no one had ever heard of it, except for the many seniors who frequented this hotel en masse. Anyway, we had our preconceptions ready, but they vanished like snow in the sun when we looked at the wine list. Bienvenues Batard Montrachet Grand Cru by Jean Claude Ramonet for 274 euros . Yes, it's not fancy to share prices, but in this context, it seemed permissible. It's a bit more expensive here. You want to experience this. Still expensive, don't get me wrong, but at the same time, happiness is priceless.
Château de la Giraudière, Villeny
Imagine waking up in a fairytale castle, surrounded by beautiful gardens and historic charm. Château de la Giraudière offers just that. With its elegantly furnished rooms and serene setting, it's the perfect place to completely unwind. The hospitality is top-notch, and you'll receive plenty of tips about local wineries.
Hotel de la Poste, Beaune
Located in the heart of Beaune, Hôtel de la Poste is a great base for exploring this historic city, just a short walk from the famous Hospices de Beaune. Perfect for those who want to combine culture and comfort.
House 1896, Beaune
I stumbled upon it by chance while looking for an anonymous lunch spot where I could also work on my laptop. It turned out to be The Slanted Door in the heart of Beaune, part of the luxury hotel Maison 1896, where I heard a lot of American guests passing by. (“Baaaaanjouuuuuuur”).
Les Nourrits Country Hotel, Bœurs-en-Othe
Just a bit outside the region, but definitely worth the detour. Admittedly, I've never been, but I follow Buitenhotel Les Nourrits on Instagram, and I always think: I have to go there. The outdoor hotel is run by a Dutch couple and consists of four chalets. There's a swimming pool with a giant unicorn airbed, they cook for you daily, and there seems to be no shortage of (good) wine. In short, a must-visit.
Le Cara, Beaune
Prefer an apartment, so you can occasionally crack open a nice wine at home? Then Le Cara is a good option. This cozy apartment also offers a comfortable kitchenette where you can easily prepare meals, but keep in mind that your bed is in the same room. It's a good base for those who want to stay in the city for a while.
Whether you choose a hip venue in the middle of the city (Mama Shelter) or a fairytale castle (Château de la Giraudière), open a bottle of Saint Aubin and the rest will take care of itself.
