Jette van Bergen , a huge wine fan and equally passionate Francophile, shares her favorite culinary and wine-related discoveries in Burgundy. After a short internship at a Burgundy wine estate, her love for France only deepened, leading to a permanent move and a degree in viticulture and oenology. She knows Dijon like no other, so we asked her for tips. Thank you later!

Restaurants and Wine Bars in Dijon

Spica (Dijon)

Enjoy a meal, but French-style. Spica is a small restaurant with bistro cuisine near Les Halles de Dijon. It's a must-see, as you'd otherwise easily walk right past it. Spica serves a three-course menu that changes regularly based on the season and the chef's inspiration. The excellent, comprehensive wine list completes a Burgundian dining experience. Reservations are recommended, especially on weekends.

House of the Caryatides (Dijon)

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Dijon. The restaurant itself makes you want to dine out. Valentine, the owner, with her sparkling eyes and wonderful humor, creates the most beautiful dishes straight from the open kitchen. They use local ingredients as much as possible, and the menu changes regularly.

La Cave Se Rebiffe (Dijon)

For a good wine bar, you really need to go to Beaune, with one exception: La Cave Se Rebiffe. This tiny wine bar just off the main street from the town center boasts the finest bottles from France and beyond. Be sure to ask the owners for advice, as they have a story to tell about every bottle. Reservations are recommended!

The Arsouille (Dijon)

Looking to score some nice bottles to take home? Then L'Arsouille is the place to be. They offer a wide selection of (natural) wines from various regions, ciders, and craft beers. You can be sure you're getting a great price for what you pay.

Bakeries and Cheese Shops in Dijon

Tartin'Art (Dijon)

I can hardly write this without my mouth watering. Here you'll find the most delicious gougères . Highly recommended. Reason enough to make Dijon your pit stop on your way south, or back home. They also have delicious salads to take away. The coffee is awful.

Boulangerie Buffon (Dijon)

The best bread in Dijon comes, without a doubt, from Boulangerie Buffon. Everything they make is organic: from the bread to the pastries and pastries. A true guilty pleasure!

Porcheret (Dijon)

I want cheese! Every (French) cheese region is well represented here. Feel free to ask for advice if you get lost in this cheese paradise. Bonus tip: many cheeses can be vacuum-sealed so you can enjoy them later.

Wine experiences in Gevrey-Chambertin

La Maison T (Gevrey-Chambertin)

At this "table d'hôte" at Domaine Trapet, lunch tastings are held almost daily. Enjoy a typical Burgundian four-course menu and sample wines from both Burgundy and Alsace. Stay overnight for the full experience!

Griottes (Gevrey-Chambertin)

Chef Guillaume Royer prepares the finest traditional Burgundian dishes here with a modern twist. The restaurant is open for both lunch and dinner, so there's always a good excuse to stop by.

Wine bar in Beaune

The Wine Arches (Beaune)

L'Arche des Vins in Beaune is everything you'd expect from a good wine bar. A vast wine list, beautiful glassware, and above all: incredibly friendly staff. A must-see when visiting Burgundy.

Guest blogger: Jette van Bergen

I'm Jette van Bergen (@kleinmaarwijn), a huge Francophile and a true wine lover. In 2022, I decided to work at a wine estate in Burgundy for a few months. Purely for the experience and to satisfy my hunger for France. The opposite happened, and I soon decided to pack my bags and emigrate to Burgundy to further immerse myself in the world of winemaking. I'm currently studying Viticulture and Oenology at Viti in Beaune. Next step? Making more wine, tasting more wine, and above all: sharing more wine with other wine lovers.
