One of my favorite holiday destinations is and remains the Champagne region. Even if you only have two days, it's still easily accessible by car. From Rotterdam, you can drive to Reims in 4.5 hours, including a short coffee break along the way.
By popular request, I'm sharing a list of my favorite places to stay, from (boutique) hotels to apartments in Épernay, Reims, or elsewhere in the Champagne region.
Among the vineyards at L'Écrin des Vignes
L'Écrin des Vignes in Sermiers is what you'd call an idyllic boutique hotel with only a handful of rooms. The hostess is incredibly kind and takes her time with you. She has a laundry list of restaurant recommendations, so you can really indulge yourself in the culinary world.

A very nice apartment complex with four apartments ranging in size from 2 to 6 people. The apartment is located in the heart of Épernay, a stone's throw from the Avenue de Champagne, where you can enjoy a lovely stroll.

Auberge Le Relais
Auberge le Relais is located in the western part of the Vallée de la Marne. Here you'll find many smaller champagne producers and stunning views over the valley. It's a bit further away from the hustle and bustle. If you love nature and enjoy walking through the vineyards, this is the perfect place for you. It also has a good restaurant with a great wine list.

Back to basics at the Épernay campsite
In Épernay, you'll find a municipal campsite. It's located about two kilometers from the village on the Marne River. The campsite offers all amenities (except toilet paper). It's a great base for a champagne weekend. Note: it can be busy with seasonal workers around harvest time.
